Bob Lewis, 75, a 27-year resident of Annapolis, died Feb. 23 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The cause of death was not available.

Mr. Lewis was born on Oct. 17, 1928, in Philadelphia, graduated from the City College of San Francisco and earned a master's degree in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. He later received a doctoral degree from the University of Helsinki in Finland.

He served his country with distinction during peacetime in the Marine Corps.

Mr. Lewis worked in the Civil Service at the U.S. Department of Justice for 25 years before retiring in 1995.

Photographs that he took of Cannery Row in Monterey, Calif., in the 1950s are now displayed in various shows throughout California, including the current exhibit for the Cannery Row Foundation in Monterey. City College of San Francisco

He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Fleet Reserve Club and was a founder of the local branch of the Sea Scouts. His interests included police work, boating and the Chesapeake Bay.Department of Justice

Surviving are his wife, Eila Lewis, whom he met in Finland and married May 28, 1960; one son, Dane Lewis of California; two daughters, Suvi Lewis of Morton, Wash., and Kirsi Lewis of Annapolis; and two grandchildren.University of Helsinki
